Learning in everyday life according to the Berlin education program
In our daycare center, children experience co-determination every day – even when ordering food. Together, we consider what dishes we would like to have, talk about healthy eating, and make democratic decisions.
In the process, the children learn important skills from the Berlin education program:
I-Competence
- express their own wishes and needs
- Make decisions
- Develop self-confidence
Social competence
- listen to others
- Finding compromises
- vote together and follow the rules
Practical expertise
- Getting to know food
- Speaking about healthy eating
- Discovering different tastes and cultures
Learning methodology competence
- Collecting and comparing ideas
- Finding solutions together
- Taking responsibility
Participation in meal planning strengthens the independence of children and shows them:
„My opinion is important and I can contribute to everyday life.“
In this way, everyday activities become valuable learning opportunities.
